Salisbury 54321 50K ultra marathon, Salisbury 5-4-3-2-1
Distance – 50k
Time – 4hr 26
Position – 15th (out of 199)
Food – 3 energy gels and some occasional salt when the legs were struggling
Drink – one cup of water at each of the plentiful aid stations (roughly every 3 or 4 miles)
It’s been a while since a race had me flat on my back for a good 10 minutes at the end but this one did. My legs are okish but the last 4 miles on Tarmac running through streets, past the beautiful cathedral and then to the Salisbury fire station really took their toll. The event was organised by the Salisbury Fire Service all for charity and it was great to think we were participating in something that was not only a personal achievement but going to a good cause to further benefit the fire services of Salisbury city. They had races of all distances so I highly recommend the event to all abilities, though take good notice of the weather and bring some of your own energy supplements to accompany the water and juice at the aid stations.
