Race Report – White Rose Ultra 100 mile – Yorkshire

The White Rose Ultra 2015.   This is the first time organisers Team OA have organised a 100 mile event, which consists of 3 loops of their 30 mile course with a 10 mile additional loop tagged onto the beginning.  There were aid stations every 5 miles and all in all for the reasonably priced entry fee of £55 (2015) it was a very well organised event.  Painted floor arrows and lamppost signage were plentiful and aid stations (whilst unmanned during theRead more

Race Report – Transvulcania Ultra Marathon – Spain

Transvulcania Ultra Marathon Transvulcania 2015   (Photos after all the writing) Having done the Transalpine (2012) and TransGrancaneria (2013), I should have been weary of entering theTransvulcania, trans now being synonymous with ‘painful’ or ‘sever discomfort’.   With 44 miles and 4200meters of climb I didn’t expect it to be too bad but I really underestimated it – as the opening race for the Skyrunning World Series it is really really tough. I’ve never ran on volcanic soil/ ash /Read more

Race Report – The Oner – Jurassic Coast

Firstly i’ll explain my excuses for DNF’ing at mile 19… nah, can’t be bothered, and don’t pretend to care 😉 ‘The Oner’ is run between Charmouth and Studland Bay, covering East Devon, West (and East) Dorset including the Purbecks and the 14 mile loop of Portland.  Which pretty much equates to the second half of this photo below (courtesy of the Jurassic coast Trust). I’ve lived in and around this impressive coast line for most of my life, however i’m alwaysRead more

Capital Ring, Grand Union Canal … A very nice run into work. Part 1

Its been ages, but it’s good to be back blogging. I spent a great evening with a good friend of mine last night in Hayes, West London.  Hayes is a bit of an interesting place, historically not the nicest place (sorry!) but with the cross rail coming in future years parts are being gratefully redeveloped.  It also has a very nice little secret in that the capital ring passes by via the Grand Union canal.  An unused waterway (short ofRead more

Race Report – Beachy Head marathon – Eastbourne

I’ve missed a few posts recently, including the Bournemouth marathon, although without photos the purpose of a blog is pointless here. There was only one photo taken of me, in my fancy dress Cow! – see below: The Beachy Head Marathon The Beachy Head Marathon is a shade under 26 miles although you will have done at least a full marathon by the time you’ve walked from your car (longer the walk the later you arrive).  Luckily for me the wobblyRead more

Race report – Lost world racing – Romania – Dracula 106k

Distance – 106k Time – 3hrs 45min (for 16k) Food – Cereal biscuits, potatoes, soy spread/ quinioa crackers. Position – 52 starters, 13 finishers. DNF after 16k following a fall 😦 Fantastic race and whilst it received some criticism from many runners for being too hard (to given you a clue, it took the joint winners Jo Meek, Anne-Marie Flammersfeld, and Laila Ojefelt 25hrs 55mins to compete the 65 mile course) it was an incredible adventure. Way tougher than mostRead more

Race report – Salisbury 54321 – 50K

My legsRead more

Race Report – Chamonix – World Sky Running Championships – Mont Blanc Marathon

I ran the Chamonix Marathon (26.2 miles), 280th out of 2100 finishers in 5 hours 14 minutes (note a course change due to heavy rain fall, 42k, reduced to 2400 meters of climb finishing in chamonix town centre instead of Planpraz).  Food – 3 gels, orange slices at aid station.  Drink – Some water, not mush as rained over whole course which was surprising refreshing although at the top of L’ Aiguillettes des Possettes I lost feeling in my fingers andRead more

Race Report – Maxi Race – Lake Annecy – 2014

Distance: 53 miles Height gain: ~2600m Participants: ~2300 Food: 4 pieces of spiced orange bio cake, baked beans, peanut butter sandwitch, 2 little potatoes. Drink: Water and two gel ISO sachets Position: DNF at Doussards, ~27 miles (half way point) Time: 7 hours Despite the DNF, this is posably one of my most happy runs, I couldn’t (or didn’t) share my enthusiasm as with only 10 people from the UK I assumed no one would understand me (or want to listen) about how awesome if feltRead more
